John Popper's harmonica-fronted jam band, on the road since the late eighties — 'Run-Around' and 'Hook' surrounded by long stretches of improvisation.

Blues Traveler came together in Princeton, New Jersey, in the late 1980s around singer and harmonica player John Popper, whose extended harmonica solos remain the band's signature instrument. Guitarist Chan Kinchla and drummer Brendan Hill have been present since the beginning; founding bassist Bobby Sheehan died in 1999. The group built its audience through constant touring and long, loose live arrangements, and was central to the H.O.R.D.E. package tours of the mid-1990s alongside other jam-oriented American bands.

The 1994 album Four gave them their widest exposure, carrying the singles that still anchor their sets. The catalogue is otherwise deep and blues-rooted, with songs treated as frameworks for improvisation rather than fixed pieces.
