Caribou
Dan Snaith's dancefloor-facing project, mathematician's precision applied to warm, looping house built from chopped vocals and live drums.
Caribou is the main project of Dan Snaith, a Canadian musician from Dundas, Ontario, who holds a doctorate in mathematics and worked earlier under the name Manitoba. His records moved from densely layered psychedelic electronics towards the house-influenced, club-minded material of Swim and Our Love, built from cut-up vocal fragments, blurred synth chords and live drumming that keeps the productions from sounding rigid.
Snaith also records harder-edged dance tracks as Daphni. Live, Caribou is presented as a band, with the studio arrangements played on drums, keys and guitar — a format that has become as much a part of the project's identity as the albums themselves.
