I See Stars formed in Warren, Michigan, in 2006, and became one of the bands most associated with electronicore — a style that folded trance synthesisers, electronic production and dance-oriented drops into post-hardcore song structures. Their debut album, 3-D, was released on Sumerian Records in 2009.

The band's approach pairs screamed and clean vocals over heavily programmed arrangements, and subsequent records including New Demons and Treehouse pushed further toward electronic and pop textures. They have remained an active touring act, with Devin Oliver as vocalist across the group's history.
