The Union Underground
San Antonio nu-metal outfit whose brief early-2000s run produced 'Turn Me On "Mr. Deadman"' — industrial-tinted riffs and radio menace.
The Union Underground formed in San Antonio, Texas, in 1996, and became part of the wave of American hard rock bands that broke through around the turn of the millennium. Their sound leaned on downtuned, industrial-inflected guitar riffs, programmed textures and heavy production, placing them alongside the nu metal acts of the era while retaining a certain Southern hard rock weight.
The group's best-known release is "Turn Me On 'Mr. Deadman'," which brought them rock radio airplay in the early 2000s. Their run was short: the band broke up in 2002, leaving a small recorded output that has continued to circulate among listeners revisiting the period.
