Maria Brink's gothic ritual-metal — costumes, choirs, and 'Whore' still searing, a stage show closer to dark ceremony than concert.

In This Moment formed in Los Angeles in 2005 around vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth. Their earliest records sat closer to metalcore, but from Blood onward the band moved toward a heavier, more industrial and gothic-leaning sound, with electronics, layered vocal arrangements and slower, riff-driven songs.

Brink's presence anchors the act, and the group is known as much for its staging as its records: costume changes, masked backing performers, and set pieces that carry the songs through distinct visual chapters. Blood, Black Widow and Ritual are among the albums that established that approach, and tracks such as "Whore" and "Blood" remain fixtures of the live set.
