BLACKPINK's coolest-in-the-room star gone solo — sleek K-pop, R&B, and fashion-week poise at main-stage scale, with solo hits that stand on their own.

Jennie Kim was born in Seoul on January 16, 1996. At nine she moved to New Zealand, attending school in Auckland before enrolling at ACG Parnell College, and she has said she first became interested in K-pop while living there. She returned to South Korea in 2010 to audition for YG Entertainment, foregoing a plan to study in the United States.

She debuted in August 2016 as a member of Blackpink, which went on to become one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, handling both rap verses and vocal parts. Her solo material moves toward pop and R&B, softer than the group's harder-edged singles, though on stage she still works at main-stage scale with the choreography typical of K-pop.

Her solo debut single, 'Solo,' released in 2018, topped South Korea's Circle Digital Chart and the US Billboard World Digital Songs chart, and its video became the first by a Korean female soloist to pass a billion YouTube views. She founded her own label, Odd Atelier, in 2023 and signed with Columbia Records in 2024. Her debut album, Ruby, released in 2025, sold a million copies worldwide, reached the US Billboard 200 top ten, and produced the global hits 'Mantra' and 'Like Jennie,' the latter reaching number one in South Korea.

In 2026 her remix of Tame Impala's 'Dracula' gave her a first top-ten entry on the Billboard Hot 100. She has also acted, making her debut under the name Jennie Ruby Jane in HBO's The Idol in 2023, and works as a global ambassador for Chanel and Calvin Klein, extending a fashion profile built over years of red-carpet and campaign work.
