Thee Sacred Souls
San Diego trio playing sweet-soul ballads with a period accuracy that never tips into pastiche — lowrider-slow romance, brand new and timeless.
Thee Sacred Souls are a trio from San Diego, built around singer Josh Lane with Alex Garcia on guitar and Sal Samano on bass. They record for Daptone's Penrose imprint, which specialises in the sweet soul and 'souldies' tradition, and their recordings favour unhurried tempos, warm analogue tone and simple, direct love songs.
The group's early singles circulated widely before their debut album, and songs such as 'Can I Call You Rose?' brought them well beyond revivalist circles. Onstage they work with a full band, keeping arrangements close to the records and leaving space for Lane's light, high vocal.
