Melodic, tattooed emo-rap from small-town Pennsylvania — big pop-punk feelings delivered with trap drums and zero irony.
Lil Skies is the rapper and singer Kimetrius Foose, from Waynesboro in southern Pennsylvania. He built an audience through SoundCloud and YouTube in the late 2010s, breaking through with "Nowadays," a collaboration with Landon Cube, and the follow-up "Red Roses." His debut project Life of a Dark Rose collected that early run and established the template he has worked in since: melodic, heavily sung vocals over trap production, with lyrics that dwell on heartbreak, fame and self-doubt as much as on success. Heavily tattooed and closely associated with the wave of emo-inflected rap that emerged online during that period, he signed to Atlantic Records and has continued releasing full-length projects in the years since.
