Maoli is a Hawaiian group from Maui built around the voice of Glenn Awong, working in the island reggae style that has dominated local radio in Hawaii for the past two decades: reggae and reggae-pop rhythms underneath melodies drawn more from R&B, soul and country balladry than from Jamaican tradition. The group records original material alongside reworked covers, and much of its following has come through Hawaii and Pacific Islander communities on the mainland US West Coast rather than through conventional mainstream channels.
