Purity Ring is a Canadian duo of vocalist Megan James and producer Corin Roddick, who began working together in Edmonton in 2010 and later based themselves in Montreal. Roddick builds tracks from pitch-shifted vocal samples, bell and chime tones and heavy low end, while James sings in a light, high register over the top, with lyrics that often use anatomical and bodily imagery.
Their debut album Shrines arrived in 2012 and was widely associated with the witch house and electronic pop currents of that period; subsequent releases moved toward cleaner, more direct synth-pop. Live, the pair have performed with custom-built instruments and lighting operated by Roddick.
