Nourished by Time is the project of Marcus Brown, a Baltimore musician who writes, performs and produces largely on his own. The music borrows from 1980s synth-pop, freestyle and quiet-storm R&B, with drum machines, layered keyboards and a baritone vocal that sits somewhere between crooning and murmuring.

Brown's songs tend to deal with money, work and romantic frustration in fairly direct terms, set against production that is deliberately smudged and low-resolution. He broke through with material released independently before signing to a larger indie label, and has since become one of the more widely discussed figures in contemporary alternative R&B.
