Silverbacks
Three guitars locking into each other over deadpan Dublin storytelling — angular, funny and tighter than they let on.
Silverbacks formed in Dublin around brothers Daniel and Kilian O'Kelly, and built their sound on three guitars playing separate lines that interlock rather than double each other, a trick borrowed from Television and the more wiry end of American indie rock. Emma Hanlon shares lead vocals on several songs, which gives the records two very different narrators.
Their debut album Fad came out in 2020, with Daniel Fox of Girl Band producing, and Archive Material followed in 2022. The songs tend to work as small character studies delivered flatly over guitars that keep shifting underneath, and the band play them live at a noticeably higher volume than the recordings suggest.
