Squarehead
Dublin fuzz-pop with an unfashionable devotion to a good melody — scrappy guitars, sweet harmonies, no posturing.
Squarehead formed in Dublin as a trio built around the songwriting of Roy Duffy, playing short, fast guitar songs with two- and three-part vocal harmonies over distorted rhythm parts. The tempos owe something to 1960s girl-group records and something to American college rock, and the recordings keep the rough edges rather than smoothing them out. The band came up through the Dublin DIY circuit of small venues and independent labels in the early 2010s, sharing bills with the guitar bands around that scene.
