The loudest voice for 'pure trance' — uplifting, melodic and deliberately unhurried, as a matter of principle.

Solarstone is the project of British producer and DJ Richard Mowatt, active since the mid-1990s and originally a duo. The name is closely tied to melodic, uplifting trance: long builds, sustained chord progressions and breakdowns that take their time, rather than the shorter, harder arrangements that dominated dance floors in later years.

'Seven Cities' remains the best known Solarstone record. Mowatt has also been the main advocate of the Pure Trance concept, running it as a label, compilation series and club night intended to keep a specific, unhurried style of trance in circulation. His sets and productions follow the same principle, favouring melody and gradual development over immediate impact.
