Sunday (1994) is built around Paige Turner, from Los Angeles, and Lee Newell, from Slough, England, who met in 2014 and spent years writing songs for other artists and for advertising before turning the material toward themselves. Jason Puma, from Lima, Peru, plays drums; Turner had previously been in Xylø, Newell in Viva Brother and Lovelife.
The pair began writing for themselves once the COVID-19 pandemic started, posting early results on TikTok, where uploads picked up a few thousand views apiece. That response carried the project past a side hobby, with Turner and Newell already a decade into both a creative partnership and a relationship by the time the band took shape.
The music leans on reverb-heavy guitars, soft vocals set low in the mix and slow, unhurried tempos, closer to the atmosphere of early-1990s alternative records than their volume.
A self-titled debut EP followed in 2024, reissued in a deluxe edition, then the single "Doomsday" arrived in February 2025 ahead of a second EP, Devotion, released that May. A deluxe edition of Devotion followed in 2026, adding three further tracks.
