The Castellows
Three sisters from south Georgia — banjo, guitar and the kind of sibling harmony no rehearsal can manufacture.
The Castellows are the sisters Ellie, Powell and Lily Balkcom, who grew up on a farm in rural southwest Georgia before relocating to Nashville. Powell plays banjo, and the group's arrangements lean on acoustic instruments and close three-part harmony, placing them nearer to traditional country and bluegrass than to contemporary radio country.
The trio first found a wide audience by posting videos of themselves singing together, which drew enough attention to lead to a deal with Warner Music Nashville. Their recorded work keeps the same unfussy approach as those early clips: guitar, banjo and voices, with the harmony singing carrying most of the weight.
