Pop-punk that grew up in public — suburban specifics rendered with novelistic detail, Dan Campbell narrating adulthood in real time.

The Wonder Years formed in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, in 2005, fronted by vocalist Dan Campbell. Early releases leaned on the fast, hook-heavy end of pop punk, but from The Upsides and Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing onward the band moved toward heavier, more ambitious arrangements and increasingly detailed songwriting.

Campbell's lyrics work in specifics — place names, family, work, the geography of the Philadelphia suburbs — and the albums are often structured around a linked set of ideas rather than standalone singles. Later records including The Greatest Generation, No Closer to Heaven and Sister Cities pushed further from the genre's conventions, incorporating post-hardcore textures and slower, more spacious material.
