AJR is a trio of brothers — Adam, Jack and Ryan Met — from New York City, who began writing and recording together as teenagers and take the band's name from their initials. They produce their own material, working from a home setup rather than conventional studios.

Their music is pop built from layered samples, brass stabs, sudden dynamic drops and spoken or conversational vocal passages, with lyrics that tend toward self-conscious commentary on growing up, anxiety and success. The group built an audience largely through streaming before moving into arenas, and their live shows lean on scripted staging and visual production.
