Amy Speace is a singer-songwriter based in Nashville who came to music after training and working as a stage actor, including a stint with a touring Shakespeare company in New York. She began releasing records in the early 2000s, and her early work appeared on Judy Collins' Wildflower label.

Her writing tends toward narrative: character sketches, plainly worded reflections on marriage, motherhood, grief and middle age, set to acoustic arrangements that leave room for the lyric. Her records have generally been made in the Americana and folk world rather than the country mainstream, and she is a familiar presence in Nashville's songwriter community, where she also teaches and mentors other writers.
