The Backstreet Boys formed in Orlando in 1993 around Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson. They broke through first in Europe before becoming one of the defining American pop groups of the late 1990s, working with Swedish producers including Max Martin on singles such as "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)", "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)", "As Long as You Love Me" and "I Want It That Way".
Their sound rests on layered five-part vocal harmony over dance-pop and ballad arrangements, and their shows have always paired that with choreography. The group has continued recording and touring across three decades, including a long-running Las Vegas residency, with all five original members.
