Matchbox Twenty formed in Orlando, Florida in 1996, with Rob Thomas on lead vocals alongside Kyle Cook, Paul Doucette and Brian Yale. Their debut, Yourself or Someone Like You, sold heavily on the strength of singles including "Push", "3AM" and "Real World", placing the band at the centre of late-1990s American pop rock and post-grunge radio. Mad Season and More Than You Think You Are followed, with "Bent" and "Unwell" among the best-known tracks. Thomas has also had a substantial solo career, notably his vocal on Santana's "Smooth", and the band has reunited periodically for touring and new material.
