Matt Heafy's Florida four-piece has quietly become one of metal's most technically reliable live bands — 'Ascendancy' to now, no off nights.
Trivium formed in Orlando, Florida, in 2000, and are fronted by guitarist and vocalist Matt Heafy alongside guitarist Corey Beaulieu and bassist Paolo Gregoletto. Their 2005 album Ascendancy brought them to wider attention and remains the record most associated with them, combining thrash-derived riffing and twin-guitar harmonies with metalcore structures and a mix of clean and screamed vocals.
Across subsequent albums the band has moved between heavier, more technical material and more melodic writing, while keeping a consistently high standard of musicianship. They have toured steadily since the mid-2000s and are known as a dependable live act, with Heafy handling the majority of lead vocals and the guitar work staying tight at speed.
