Every Time I Die and Dillinger Escape Plan alumni reconvened — frantic, technical, and unusually fun for music this dense, with the swagger of veterans who have nothing to prove.

Better Lovers formed in Buffalo, New York, in 2023, after the acrimonious breakup of Every Time I Die. Guitarist Jordan Buckley, bassist Steve Micciche and drummer Clayton Holyoak had all played in that band, which split following a public falling-out with singer Keith Buckley that ended in a cease-and-desist over use of the name.

The trio began writing with producer Will Putney, who had made Every Time I Die's last two albums and joined as a second guitarist, and brought in Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan to sing. Putney also plays in Fit For An Autopsy, adding another lineage to a band often described as a supergroup.

The music draws on both lineages: the angular, rhythmically unstable riffing of mathcore alongside the southern-tinged hardcore swagger of the members' previous band. Songs tend to be short and dense, with abrupt time changes and Puciato alternating between screamed and sung vocals.

Signed to SharpTone Records, the band introduced itself with the single "30 Under 13" in April 2023, followed by the debut EP, God Made Me An Animal, and further singles and an album since. They have toured steadily behind the material, including dates alongside The Ghost Inside, Underoath and We Came As Romans.
