The Number Twelve Looks Like You formed in New Jersey in 2002 and became one of the more recognisable names in American mathcore. Their music pairs the speed and screamed vocals of grindcore and screamo with abrupt time-signature shifts, jazz-inflected passages and clean-sung interludes, often within the same song.
The band recorded for Eyeball Records and later Corrosive Recordings, and were associated with the wave of technical, chaotic hardcore that came out of the northeastern United States in the 2000s. After a period of inactivity beginning around 2010, they resumed performing and recording.
