Emma Boster fronting metalcore that leans hard into late-'90s heaviness with none of the nostalgia — Portland fury built for the modern pit.
Dying Wish formed in Portland in 2016, initially under the name Trust Issues, releasing the debut EP Finding Peace in the Darkness in 2017. The band became Dying Wish in 2018, marked by a self-titled demo, with Emma Boster fronting a lineup rounded out by guitarists Sam Reynolds and Pedro Carrillo, drummer Jeff Yambra and bassist Jon Mackey, who replaced original bassist Andrew Le in 2022.
The group draws heavily on late-1990s and early-2000s metalcore and melodic death metal: twin-guitar melody, hardcore-derived breakdowns and Boster's harsh vocals delivered with little clean singing. A 2019 song, "Enemies in Red," featured Bryan Garris of Knocked Loose, and the band signed to SharpTone Records in 2020 behind the single "Innate Thirst."
Their debut album, Fragments of a Bitter Memory, arrived on SharpTone in October 2021 and brought wider attention. A second album, Symptoms of Survival, followed in November 2023, preceded by the singles "Torn from Your Silhouette" and "Watch My Promise Die." A third album, Flesh Stays Together, was released in September 2025.
In 2023 the band mounted its first US headlining run, Come and Be Killed by Dying Wish, and in 2024 co-headlined a US tour with Pain of Truth. In 2025 they opened for Spiritbox on that band's Tsunami Sea tour, having already played shows in Australia supporting Counterparts.
