Camping in Alaska formed in Huntsville, Alabama, and became one of the more widely traded names in the mid-2010s wave of Midwest-emo revival bands, most of which circulated through Bandcamp and message boards rather than radio. Their songs pair bright, tapped and fingerpicked guitar lines with abrupt shifts in tempo and dynamics, and vocals that move between spoken-sounding delivery and full screams. Lyrically the band works in the confessional, self-questioning register common to the style, and the recordings keep a deliberately unpolished, close-miked feel.
