Half of Deep Dish, then a second career in stripped, hypnotic techno — Grammy-winning past, minimalist present, both played with surgical precision.

Dubfire is the solo project of Ali Shirazinia, an Iranian-born, Washington, D.C.-raised DJ and producer who first became widely known as one half of Deep Dish alongside Sharam. That duo worked in a lush, vocal-driven strain of progressive house and dance music through the late 1990s and 2000s before the two pursued separate paths.

Under the Dubfire name, Shirazinia moved toward darker and more stripped-down territory: rigid, percussive techno and tech-house built on repetition, sound design detail and long, slow-building arrangements. His DJ sets favour extended mixing and a steady tightening of tension rather than obvious peaks, and he has remained a fixture of the international club and festival circuit for techno.
