Geordie Greep is the singer and guitarist of the London band black midi, who emerged from the Brixton music scene at the end of the 2010s. He released his first solo album, The New Sound, in 2024, recording part of it in São Paulo with Brazilian musicians alongside sessions in London.

The record moves away from black midi's angular rock towards Latin rhythms, jazz-rock arrangements and lounge and salsa textures, with Greep singing in the voice of boastful, unpleasant male narrators. His guitar playing and rapid, wordy delivery carry over from his main band, and the material is performed with a large ensemble.
