Detroit ghettotech revived at full speed — a trio who rap, DJ and MC over 160bpm at once, and treat the dancefloor like a call and response.

HiTech are a Detroit trio formed in 2022, working in the city's ghettotech tradition — the fast, percussive strain of dance music that grew out of Detroit techno, Miami bass and electro, and that has long been tied to the city's jit and footwork dance styles. Rather than splitting the roles of producer, DJ and rapper, the group combine them, layering chanted vocals and call-and-response commands over tracks built for speed.

Their music keeps the genre's original functions intact: short, repetitive vocal hooks, heavy low end, and arrangements that exist to keep dancers moving and answering back. Live, the three trade off between the decks and the microphone.
