'Sedona' and campfire-rock warmth from the Indiana border — loose, nostalgic Americana with harmonies to spare.

Houndmouth formed in the summer of 2011 in New Albany, Indiana, just across the river from Louisville, Kentucky. After playing local venues in both towns, the band travelled to South by Southwest in 2012 to promote a homemade four-song EP; Rough Trade founder Geoff Travis caught the set and signed them shortly after, and The Guardian named the group its Band of the Week that year.

Their debut, From the Hills Below the City, appeared on Rough Trade in 2013, built from roots rock, country and blues with all four members singing and stacking harmonies. The record carried them onto Letterman and Conan and into festival bills including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Newport Folk, with Spin, Esquire and Garden & Gun singling out the band's mix of roots and rock.

Little Neon Limelight followed in 2015 and produced 'Sedona,' still the band's best-known song. Houndmouth played it on the Late Show with David Letterman that March and performed it again later in the year on Last Call with Carson Daly, recorded at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.

Founding member Katie Toupin left after that album to pursue her own projects, and Houndmouth answered with Golden Age in 2018, its first release without her. Good for You, released in 2021, was written and recorded during the pandemic at a nineteenth-century shotgun house in New Albany owned by drummer Shane Cody's family, with videos shot on location.

The band released a fifth album, Lordy, in 2026, extending a catalogue that has grown looser and more varied since the early records while keeping the ragged, communal sound of those first releases intact, harmonies still doing much of the work.
