Jake Wesley Rogers was born December 19, 1996, and grew up in Ozark, Missouri, near Springfield. He learned guitar at six, added piano and voice training at twelve, and began performing in theater and writing songs while still in grade school. He came out as gay in sixth grade, and while his family was supportive, the cultural climate of his hometown made him keep it private for a time.

At fifteen he competed on America's Got Talent, advancing to the top 48 before being eliminated, brought back on a wild card, and eliminated again. He moved to Nashville at eighteen to study songwriting at Belmont University, where a live performance in his first year led to a Sony/ATV publishing deal; he graduated in 2018.

He works largely from the piano, writing in a glam and soft-rock tradition that draws openly on 1970s songwriters, with big melodic choruses and arrangements that build toward gospel-inflected climaxes. His Pluto EP brought his songs to a wider audience, following earlier releases including the Evergreen EP in 2017 and the Spiritual EP in 2019, the latter supported by a European tour and a session for BBC Radio 4.

In 2021 he signed to Warner Records through Justin Tranter's Facet Records imprint, releasing the single 'Middle of Love' and making his television debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden. He has since opened shows for Ben Platt, Panic! At the Disco and Kesha.

His live performances lean into costume and stagecraft, with a presentation as considered as the material. The songs themselves tend to be direct and unguarded, dealing with queerness, faith and self-acceptance without much irony.
