Kid Kapichi
Hastings four-piece writing angry, funny state-of-Britain songs over big dumb riffs, affectionately meant — terrace-chant punk with a wink and a point.
Kid Kapichi began in Hastings in 2013, when Jack Wilson and Ben Beetham started writing songs together, finishing their first, 'Ice Cream,' before school friends Eddie Lewis on bass and George MacDonald on drums joined. The band played its earliest shows around Hastings and built a following through years of relentless gigging before reaching wider notice.
Several singles and EPs preceded a run of European touring in 2019, including festival slots and a support tour with Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes. The band self-released its debut album, This Time Next Year, in February 2021. A year later, Liam Gallagher personally invited them to open for him at the Royal Albert Hall after praising their song 'New England' online.
The four-piece pairs heavy, riff-led guitar rock with lyrics about British life: work, class, politics and small-town frustration, delivered with a sardonic streak rather than straightforward anger. Vocals are frequently half-shouted and conversational, closer to spoken commentary than singing, and choruses are built to be yelled back by a crowd.
Signed to Spinefarm Records in 2022, they released Here's What You Could Have Won that September, featuring Bob Vylan on a reworked 'New England,' which reached number 38 in the UK. Their third album, There Goes the Neighbourhood, followed in 2024 with Suggs guesting on 'Zombie Nation,' and the band toured North America supporting Nothing but Thieves.
In 2025, founding members Ben Beetham and George MacDonald left, leaving Jack Wilson and Eddie Lewis at the band's core. Live, Kid Kapichi still leans on volume and momentum, playing short, direct songs at close quarters, drawing comparisons to earlier British guitar bands who mixed social observation with punk energy.
