Lagwagon formed in Goleta, California in 1990 and became one of the first bands signed to Fat Mike's Fat Wreck Chords, releasing Duh in 1992. Fronted throughout by singer Joey Cape, the group helped define the melodic, fast, technically busy strain of California punk that spread through the 1990s, across records including Trashed, Hoss and Let's Talk About Feelings.
The sound pairs rapid, precise drumming and intricate guitar work with hooks that lean closer to power pop than hardcore, and Cape's lyrics tend toward self-examination and dark humor rather than slogans. The band has continued to record and tour over three decades, with Cape also active as a solo acoustic performer and in other projects.
