Phantogram is the duo of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter, who grew up together in Greenwich, in upstate New York, and began recording as a pair in 2007. Their debut album, Eyelid Movies, appeared in 2009 and set out the template: sampled and programmed beats with a trip-hop weight to them, layers of guitar and keyboard haze, and vocals split between the two members.
"When I'm Small" remains their best-known song. Later records pushed further toward pop production while keeping the low end intact, and the pair also recorded as Big Grams in collaboration with Big Boi.
