Michigan-born, Berlin-forged — a selector as known for his opinions as his exceptional record collection, and both run deep.

Seth Troxler was born in 1985 and grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where his stepfather hosted a local radio show he listened to as a boy. The family moved to the outskirts of Detroit when he was fourteen, and he was soon going to underground techno raves and throwing his own parties, booking Magda to play for him at fifteen.

A teenage job buying techno for a Detroit-area record store put him alongside future collaborators Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss and Shaun Reeves; the four later founded the label and DJ collective Visionquest together. Troxler moved to Berlin after finishing his degree and became a fixture of its club circuit and a regular in Ibiza, drawing on the musical heritage of Detroit and Chicago house and techno.

His DJ sets pull from house, minimal, tech house and disco, and he has produced for labels including Wolf + Lamb, Crosstown Rebels and Circus Company, collaborating with Art Department, Deetron, Tiefschwarz, Matthew Dear and Subb-an. He stepped back from Visionquest in 2014 to run his own labels, Tuskegee, Soft Touch and Play It, Say It, and in 2017 launched the multidisciplinary project Lost Souls of Saturn with Phil Moffa.

Constant touring, 158 gigs in 2012 alone, carried him to the top of Resident Advisor's annual DJ poll that year. Troxler is also known for speaking bluntly about the dance music industry in interviews, and for interests outside music including barbecue and a restaurant he ran in East London, Smokey Tails.
