Viral dark art-pop — spoken-word menace over strings, Gen Z's gothic conscience with a scalpel for a pen.

Sofia Isella is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and producer working in a theatrical strain of art pop. Her songs tend to be built around half-spoken, closely mic'd vocals set against strings, sparse percussion and abrasive electronic textures, with arrangements that swell and drop out rather than settling into conventional pop structures.

Her writing leans on character voices, irony and social commentary, often taking aim at gender expectations, consumer culture and internet life. She built an audience largely through short-form video, where excerpts of her songs circulated widely before her recorded catalogue was well known, and she performs the material with a strong emphasis on staging and delivery.

Born Sofia Isella Miranda on January 29, 2005, to filmmaker Claudio Miranda and writer Kelli Bean, she started playing violin as a child and wrote her first lyrics at eight. Her family moved often through her childhood, living in Taiwan, Canada, Louisiana and New Mexico before settling in Australia in 2020 and returning to Los Angeles by 2024.

She has released four EPs since 2020, and after gaining attention on TikTok she opened concerts for Melanie Martinez, Tom Odell, Taylor Swift, Florence and the Machine and Glass Animals. In 2025 she moved into headlining her own shows across the United States, Europe and Australia.

She names Trent Reznor, Beck, Sylvia Plath, Margaret Atwood and Anne Sexton among her influences. Her staging carries the same tone as the songs: baggy, uncolored clothing often smeared with dirt, macabre album art, and music videos built on horror-film imagery.
