A loose, Dead-devoted side project made entirely for the people who record every set — in-joke as genre, played with real chops.

Taper's Choice is a group built around the Grateful Dead's repertoire and the improvisational habits that come with it, taking its name from the tapers' section culture that grew up around live recordings. The band leans on extended jamming, loose segues and the country-and-blues end of the Dead songbook, treating the material as a framework to stretch rather than a set of fixed arrangements. The tone is deliberately casual, though the playing is precise enough to sustain long instrumental passages.
