Karina Rykman is a bassist and bandleader based in New York City. She built her reputation in the city's improvised-music circles and spent years touring as bassist in keyboardist Marco Benevento's trio before stepping out with her own group, an electric power trio format that leaves room for extended instrumental passages.

Her own material sits between pop-length songwriting and open-ended jamming, with sung hooks, effects-heavy bass lines and a stage presence built on visible enthusiasm. She has become a familiar name on the American jam-band circuit, both as a leader and as a frequent guest with other players.
