Glasgow trio whose mid-2000s indie boom hits still function as mass singalongs — 'Chelsea Dagger' as unavoidable terrace anthem, plus two decades of albums since.
The Fratellis are a Glasgow trio formed in 2005, comprising Jon Fratelli on guitar and vocals, Barry Fratelli on bass and Mince Fratelli on drums — the shared surname adopted rather than inherited. Their debut album, Costello Music, arrived during the mid-2000s British indie boom and paired garage-rock guitars with pub-singalong choruses, music-hall phrasing and character-driven lyrics.
'Chelsea Dagger' became the band's best-known song and has had a long second life as a sports-arena chant. After a hiatus in the early 2010s the trio reconvened and have continued releasing albums, gradually widening the sound to take in soul, glam and pop arrangements while keeping the melodic directness of the early records.
