Los Angeles band who came up in the early djent wave and stayed strange — polyrhythmic guitar figures loosened by hip-hop swing and clean-sung hooks.
Volumes formed in Los Angeles in 2009 and emerged alongside the wave of bands building songs from low-tuned, syncopated guitar riffing that came to be labelled djent. Their debut album Via appeared in 2011, followed by No Sleep in 2014.
The band pairs stuttering polyrhythmic riffs and screamed vocals with sung choruses and a rhythmic feel that borrows from hip-hop as much as from metalcore, and they have used two vocalists for much of their career. Their line-up has changed several times, with Gus Farias the most consistent presence at the microphone.
