Dominic Fike
Florida songwriter splicing guitar-pop, rap cadences, and a genuinely odd melodic sense — '3 Nights' opened the door; the weirder stuff kept people inside.
Dominic Fike was born on December 30, 1995, in Naples, Florida, to Jessica Fike and David Mills. Both parents struggled with heroin addiction; his father was largely absent, and his mother was frequently in and out of jail, leaving Fike to move between relatives' and family friends' homes. He has spoken of witnessing domestic violence from several stepfathers.
As a child he and his friends spent time in a wooded area near his neighbourhood they called the Forest of Avalon. He picked up a guitar at age ten, taught briefly by his father, and grew up listening to Jack Johnson, Blink-182, the Strokes and Red Hot Chili Peppers. He began rapping around 2014 under the alias L$G, running a small label called Backhouse.
He drew wide attention with a set of home-recorded demos, released in 2018 as the EP Don't Forget About Me, Demos, posted to SoundCloud, which led to a heavily contested signing with Columbia Records. '3 Nights' reached the top ten in several countries and became his best-known song, and he went on to collaborate with Brockhampton and Halsey.
His writing moves between guitar-led pop, rapped verses and loose R&B phrasing, often within the same track, and he favours short songs and unpolished vocal takes. His debut album, What Could Possibly Go Wrong, released in 2020, charted in the top 50 in the United States and Australia, and he later contributed a cover of Paul McCartney's 'Kiss of Venus' to McCartney III Imagined.
Fike has also worked as an actor, appearing in the second season of the HBO series Euphoria as Elliot, a drug-abusing teenager, and contributing music to the show. His second album, Sunburn, followed in 2023, led by singles including 'Mona Lisa', which appeared in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. On stage he performs with a band, playing guitar alongside the vocals.
