The Dare is the project of Harrison Patrick Smith, a songwriter and producer based in New York. He emerged in the early 2020s with the single "Girls," a spare, provocative dance-punk track that drew immediate comparisons to the electroclash and indie-dance records of the mid-2000s. His music is built on blunt drum machines, distorted bass and deadpan spoken-sung vocals.
Smith also runs a club night in New York and has worked as a producer and collaborator, contributing to work by Charli XCX. Performing in a suit and tie, he presents The Dare as a defined persona rather than a straightforward singer-songwriter act.
