DFA dance-punk originators — 'House of Jealous Lovers' still detonates a field, cowbell and all, dance-punk history played live.
The Rapture formed in 1998 and became one of the defining bands of New York's early-2000s dance-punk moment, largely through their association with the DFA label and producers James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy. The 2002 single 'House of Jealous Lovers' — all cowbell, scraped guitar and Luke Jenner's high, cracking yelp — helped set the template for a scene where post-punk guitars met disco and house rhythms.
Their albums include Echoes, Pieces of the People We Love and In the Grace of Your Love, the last of which leaned further into gospel and piano house. Live, the band works as a rhythm section first, with saxophone and percussion pushing the songs toward the dancefloor rather than the mosh pit.
