Tahliah Barnett, who records as FKA twigs, grew up in Gloucestershire and worked as a backing dancer in London before releasing her own music. Her records combine alternative R&B vocals — often high, breathy and multitracked — with sparse, unstable electronic production drawn from trip hop and experimental club music, leaving long gaps that the bass then fills abruptly. LP1 and Magdalene established her reputation, and she has worked with producers including Arca and Nicolas Jaar.
