Florence + the Machine is the project led by Florence Welch, formed in London in 2007. The group's sound combines Welch's large, unrestrained voice with harp, percussion-heavy arrangements and choral backing, taking cues from soul, gospel and art rock. Their debut Lungs, released in 2009, produced "Dog Days Are Over" and "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" and was followed by Ceremonials, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, High as Hope and Dance Fever. Welch's stage presence — constant movement, direct address to the crowd, flowing costume — has become as recognisable as the records themselves.
