Laveda
Widescreen shoegaze — glistening walls of guitar, hushed boy-girl vocals, and melodies that cut through the haze, upstate New York dream-noise on the rise.
Laveda is a shoegaze and dream pop band formed in Albany, New York, around the songwriting partnership of Ali Genevich and Jake Brooks. The band relocated from Albany to Queens in 2023, a move that coincided with a broader shift in their sound.
Their music combines layered, heavily effected guitars with soft, often doubled vocals, keeping clear melodies audible beneath the distortion. Alongside the noisier material they draw on synth-led dream pop, and their recordings tend to balance the two.
Love, Darla, their third studio album, was released through Bar None Records. It draws on the sound of 80s punk and 90s grunge, reworked into something closer to the static and noise of city life than the band's earlier releases.
Laveda has opened for The Dandy Warhols, Sunflower Bean, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Belair Lip Bombs and dust. Those supporting slots have run alongside a steady stream of releases, from early recordings made in Albany to the newer material shaped since the move to Queens.
