Joseph Simmons, known as Rev Run, is a rapper and DJ from Hollis, Queens, and a founding member of Run-DMC alongside Darryl McDaniels and Jason Mizell. The group's stripped-down drum machine beats, traded vocals and rock-guitar crossovers helped move rap from clubs and parks into arenas during the 1980s, and their version of "Walk This Way" with Aerosmith remains one of the best-known examples of the form. Simmons was later ordained as a minister, which is where the Rev in his name comes from, and he has continued to perform as a solo DJ and MC, drawing heavily on the Run-DMC catalogue and the wider canon of early hip hop.
