Sir Richard Bishop is an American guitarist who came to attention as a founding member of Sun City Girls, the long-running Phoenix trio he formed with his brother Alan Bishop and drummer Charles Gocher. Since the group ended, he has worked chiefly as a solo instrumentalist on both acoustic and electric guitar.
His playing draws on flamenco, North African and South Asian modal music, jazz and American folk fingerpicking, often within improvised pieces that shift between idioms mid-performance. He has released a substantial body of solo recordings, and his live sets are typically unaccompanied and largely improvised.
