American Hi-Fi formed in Boston in the late 1990s, fronted by Stacy Jones, who had previously played drums in Veruca Salt and Letters to Cleo. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2001 and produced "Flavor of the Weak," a single that placed them squarely in the era's radio and video rotation alongside other guitar-driven pop-punk acts. The band's music pairs distorted power-chord riffs with melodic choruses and vocal harmonies, drawing as much on 1990s alternative rock as on punk. They have continued to record and tour intermittently since, while Jones has also worked as a musical director for other artists.
