The Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra is a training organisation based in Chicago that brings together young musicians from across the city and its surrounding area. Founded in the mid-twentieth century, it runs several ensembles at different levels, with the symphony orchestra as its senior group, and combines rehearsal and performance work with instruction.
Its programming draws on the standard orchestral repertoire, and the organisation has a record of performing in the city's major concert halls. Members audition for their places, and many go on to conservatory study and professional careers.
